Friday Free Read: The One That Got Away

Much has been made recently of the standout job Covered California, the state’s new health insurance marketplace, has done in recruiting the already existing health carriers to their cause.  On the surface, it was not a tough sale: Covered California is asking carriers “Please sell your product to our citizens, and not only will we advertise your product through traditional means as well as human outreach programs, but we’ll also help some of them pay for their monthly premiums!” When you put it that way, what carrier wouldn’t want to participate?
