Behind on filing your taxes? You may be losing your CoveredCA financial assistance

Do you hate doing your taxes? Do you and your accountant put them off as long as possible? You are about to get a lot more motivated to get them done as soon as possible. CoveredCA has identified thousands of covered individuals who are at risk of losing their premium assistance on April 1 due to not filing their taxes in time. The good news? You’re only at risk if you haven’t completed your 2014 taxes yet.  If you’re still working on your 2015 taxes, like millions of Americans, you’re in the clear.

If you haven’t completed your 2014 taxes, however, you’re going to lose your assistance next month.  This can amount to thousands of dollars out of your pocket over the course of the year. Here’s CoveredCA’s exact wording from their release:

To avoid losing APTC, consumers who received the notice should contact the Consumer Service Center directly at 800-300-1506. If no action is taken, APTC will be removed in April—which may affect the cost of their health coverage for the remainder of 2016. No other notices regarding the loss of APTC will be sent to affected consumers.
